Kadesh (attempt 2)

We called this a bloody draw.  Pharoah Ramses was killed.  But so was the King of the Hittites.

March his men to the top of the hill, and marched them down again

Got to Jim's late, so spectated a French and Indian war game.  The British attacked the French on a ridge and were repulsed.

The dice gods did not like me!

The church bells ring in Moscow

When in Alaska I decided I was not getting to Jim's place enough.  So headed down for some 'Hail Whomever' action.

A fictitious scenario.  Napoleonics -- French vs Russian.  French (Jim, Mark, Chris) had 3 small divisions of infantry and a division of guard cavalry.  Russians (me, Mike, Steve), had 3 large infantry divisions and some crap cavalry.

In the end, the crap Russian cavalry died to the French Guard cavalry, but they went down fighting.  One Russian division died fighting a French division in an orchard, but mauled the French.  My division sat in the middle and did nothing.  And Steve's division managed to create an angle and maul a French division for no loss.

End result -- The French destroyed 2 Russian divisions for the loss of 1.  But the Russians held the field.  So both sides claim victory.

ACW at Jim's

Jim set up an interesting historical scenario.  A confederate army had been trapped in a town by a larger union force.  The army decided to break out -- and launched an attack to the north.  Most of the union army wasnt allowed to move until conditions had been met.

In the end, the union won.  The confederates almost broke out, but ran out of steam, and then the union forces got permission to move ...

Highlanders

A scenario at Jim's.  Scots with highlanders vs parliamentarians.

Highlanders were going to charge through the farm fields

Jim was taking my right flank

The parliamentarians plan how to respond

The highlanders charge in!

But the rest of the Scots let the highlanders charge alone.  The attack was unsupported and defeated!

A scenario from "To Kill a King"

Jim put on a scenario from "To Kill a King".  The Scots are retreating.  Their rearguard is delaying a parliamentarian advance guard.  I was English (Parliamentarian), along with Jim (who was Cromwell) and Steve.  Oakie and Mike were the Scots.

The Parliamentarians move to attack.  The parliamentarian cavalry got bad command dice, so they stayed still.

The troops had to cross a valley with a stream, and then face defenses on the far bank.

The gang deciding what to do.

The English got pushed back!!!

The English cavalry is still not advancing

At this point I stopped taking pictures.  But the English flank march under Cromwell arrived, and the Scots crumbled.  But the Scots did better than historically, and can claim victory!

End Game on the Nile

Played with the Camp Cromwell crowd at End Game.  The game was Hail Caesar with the Mad Mahdi and the British.

The British were trying to relieve a fort.  I was part of the Madhi's army, commanding some fanatical cavalry.  My job was to charge, which I was spectacularly unsuccesfull at, losing most of my combats.

The game was at End Gae, and the plan is to have more historical games there.

Jim setting up the British relief column

My cavalry being defeated

It was a long table!

The end.  The Madhi won -- but it was phyrric!!!!

Talavera

Head over to Camp Cromwell for details of the campaign.  But I took part of the French attack at Talavera.  The French are outnumbered, but the British are all fatigued due to lack of supply.

The battle didnt finish -- to be continued next week!

The battle lines drawn up

The French plan to attack through the woods.  Stymied by bad command dice for the first 2 turns.

A panorama of the games room

The French attack finally gets going

Meanwhile Steve and Jim are fighting it out

Are the cavalry going to charge home?  No!

The French attack on the left is slowly pushing the British back

There are still a LOT of British!
