Trip to play games with Rod

Drove to Launceston to play games with Rod.

What a fantastic table to fight over!

Another view of the table.  The scenario was a trap to capture Captain America (in the civil war)

Thor landed in some henchmen.  The result was predictable!

Iron Man appeared to capture Thor

And who is that swinging between buildings?

The Hulk about to throw a car.  The car missed, but iron man got a lucky roll and knocked out Thor!  Victory to Rod.  But what a great game!

Games 2 -- Star trek.  Some Federation light ships ambush some Klingon heavy ships

By using their initiative, the Federation ships destroyed 2 Klingon cruisers for the loss of a Federation destroyer.  The surviving destroyer leaving the field.  Nick won.

Star Wars Risk.  Rod won convincingly.  But this is a fun fast game!

Long delayed visit

Took the exchange students (Imke and Marie) up to Launceston.  Visited Rod and picked up a bunch of magazines.  And Played Attack Wing, which I won by being a millimeter out of range on the last turn!!!!

The set up, in Rod's spare bedroom

My ships (center) have been ambushed in an asteroid field!

I fled the asteroids, losing one escort.  The other escort turned to engage.

My 2nd Escort was destroyed.  My battlecruiser was reduced to one hull -- its only option was to run off the board.  And rod was a millimeter out of range of destroying it and claiming total victory!!!

Last shootout at Rod's place (for a while, at least)

My new job is managing staff in Melbourne, and hence I probably wont be in Launceston for my usual Tuesday night games with Rod.  This is rather sad, as over the last year we have played a ton of games, experimenting with various rules systems.  So this may be our last game for a while!

We did a couple of aerial battles -- WWI using Canvas Eagles on Rod's new hex mat, and then WWII with Focke Wulffs vs Mustangs.  I really like Canvas Eagles -- crunchy detail but fairly playable.

Rod has quite the collection of WWI planes now!!!  (And WWII planes at the back)

Some WWII bombers and fighters, including Memphis Belle and an HE 111.

Gosh those WWI planes are colourful!

Our dogfight using Canvas Eagles -- a lucky shot from Rod had my plane smoking straight way

The planes shot past each other

My plane out cirled Rods, and I am getting on his tail.

What will rod plan for his move?

I'm on Rod's tail!!!!!

Rod did an immelman, letting me get a great shot.  But then I misjudged, and lost the tail and ended up letting rod get a shot on me.  He shot my planes tail off, and it was all over!

We moved to WWII -- my Mustangs set up.

The Germans (Rod) and my mustangs flew through each other.  I tried to turn back around to get another shot.

One of the Focke Wulffs is down, and the other is being pursued.  Another shot and it was gone!!!!

To the Strongest

Played To The Strongest with Rod, doing Pharsalus.  We were learning the rules, so we played on the simple level.  We each managed to outflank on our right, but Rod lost one of his generals early on to machine gun firing Cretan archers, and this really slowed down what he could do.  Eventually my flank attack worked, and Rod conceded.

My Cretan archers coming foward to shoot at the opposing Numidian Light Cavalry with a Heroic General.  I dur a ton of 9 and 10 value cards to kill the cavalry and the general!

The battle as it starts to unfold

Battle is joined.  Caesar (me) has elite legions.  Pompey (Rod) has double ranked recruit legions.

The move mechanic is by card draws.  If you can draw a card higher than the last one you played on a unit, you can move again.

Pompey has success -- his right flank beat a legion.  Only to have the Cretans draw lucky cards again, and destroy the victorious legion!

My flank attack just couldnt break through!

But when it did the raw legionaries were rolled up quickly.
