Stalingrad

Played over 3 days (though I only played the first 2 days)

Game 1 was a fight over a hill.  I was Russian, and had to defend.  At a critical point I failed morale to assault a weakened German position, and ended up being pushed back off the crest.  Loss to me.

Game 2 was the grain elevator.  I had a chance for victory, trying to assault 3 times but being pushed back when the defensive fire rolled above average.  Result was a draw.

Game 3 was an attack to retake a nearby Russian village.  It started off badly when the German artillery kept surviving everything I could throw at it.  But a flank attack by T-70's was extremely successful.  A close game where I scraped a victory.

Last Game at LGC for a few months

Had a game at the LGC with Rob and Malcolm.

It was 2 on 1.  Technically we lost, because on of the Russian companies broke -- even though the other got to the objective and handily held it.

Last meal at Harri's Curry

Rob leading the charge

Some Panthers came out of ambush and destroyed a platoon of engineers!

Rob looking concerned

But this is the sort of die rolls Malcolm got all night!

On the other flank, my IS-2's walked over the objective.  The Germans were speed bumps.

Shooting Fish in a Barrel -- and Missing

Played a game of Flames of War against Malcolm.  He had his 21st Panzers.  I had British Armour.  It was a long drawn out game, with each side missing easy shots.  But the British luck can be summarised by the fact that 6 armoured cars tried to scoot around the British flanks and get side shots on the British armour.  They missed, but the return fire missed.  And this happened for 3 turns in a row!!!!!

Eventually Malcolm won:a 4-3 victory.

A French village to attack

Malcolm happy with the number of smoking British tanks.

Those pesky Armoured Cars!!!!

Somewhere in the Jungle

Flames of War Vietnam -- Nick (Vietnamese) vs Malcolm (US)

Malcolm has obviously played Flames of War Vietnam before.  he chose a devastating list.  Three infantry platoons (one each to hold an objective, and one to attack with), and an insane amount of artillery.  Couples with 4 helicopter gunships that rotated back to their base so there were always two gunships able to fire a full salvo of rockets.

I did try to spring a couple of traps -- a mortar company came out of ambush and direct fired onto some yankees.  The return fire from the helicopters was brutal!  A recoilless rifle platoon did the same, and was savaged the next turn.  The total sum of damage done -- one US infantry wounded (who the medic killed)

I had hoped to ambush my AA under some helicopters, but Malcolm was incredibly careful, making sure the helicopters only flew over ground occupied by US infantry.

After half a dozen turns the Vietnamese had been ground down, and melted into the jungle.

New Member, New Mat

We had a new member at the club -- Malcolm.  Malcolm has just moved to Launceston from Melbourne.

And, when we showed up at the club, the club had purchased a new mat or two!!!!!

We did a 3 player Flames of War game.  Malcolm had 1750 points of 21st Panzer.  Lowell had 1000 points of Russians, and I had 750 points of Russians.

Malcolm destroyed my force, and technically won the game.  But Lowell and Malcolm kept playing, and Lowell pulled out a win.
