WW I planes -- Wings of Glory.
Michael and Johnathan came over -- and we circled each other in the sky. Most remarkable was the second game, where Jonathan had one plane shot down at the start, but his remaining plane, even though on fire, managed to survive lots of damage and shoot down both opposing allied planes.

Last shootout at Rod's place (for a while, at least)
My new job is managing staff in Melbourne, and hence I probably wont be in Launceston for my usual Tuesday night games with Rod. This is rather sad, as over the last year we have played a ton of games, experimenting with various rules systems. So this may be our last game for a while!
We did a couple of aerial battles -- WWI using Canvas Eagles on Rod's new hex mat, and then WWII with Focke Wulffs vs Mustangs. I really like Canvas Eagles -- crunchy detail but fairly playable.

What will rod plan for his move?

I'm on Rod's tail!!!!!

Rod did an immelman, letting me get a great shot. But then I misjudged, and lost the tail and ended up letting rod get a shot on me. He shot my planes tail off, and it was all over!

We moved to WWII -- my Mustangs set up.

The Germans (Rod) and my mustangs flew through each other. I tried to turn back around to get another shot.

Friendly Games
Went to Hogs, and played with Greg (who is a teacher at Friends) and his sister Jennifer (I think -- my memory is horrible), and Anthony.
And we then finished off with some WWI dogfights.

Flooded Fokkers
The plan was for a 4 player (2 players a side) WWI dogfight with Fokkers, Camels, Albatrosses, etc. using Wings of Glory.
However, floods in Launceston got in the way. Only Lowell could make it. Rob was being evacuated, and Rod was worried he wouldnt be able to get back home (a not unreasonable concern!)
So we did 4 planes each. I had 2 Fokkers and 2 Albatross, while Lowell had a Bristol and 3 Camels. I had a height advantage, but in the end that wasn't that much of an advantage! I had to dive to the same level as Lowell to engage.
Eventually, all of my planes were bought down. But the Allies werent in good shape -- they had two planes that were held together by sticky tape!!!

One Camel down. But I keep confusing the Albatrosses, and they keep flying away from the combat.

Lothar Rides Again
Susan wanted me out of the house, so I went over the Barrie,s place for a quick game of Wings of Glory!! An Albatross and a Fokker DR1 vs two RE8.
I kept getting my left and right command cards mixed up, and Lothar kept turning the wrong way. He did get on the tail of an RE8. But the damage cards give and the damage cards taketh away. About 8 damage cards in a row for Lothar were zero. And then he drew the explosion card. And the Albatross drew an explosion card as well the next turn!!!!

Fokkers, Fokkers, everywhere
An evening of WWI dogfights.
First up was a larger dogfight using Wings of Glory. In a scenario loosely based on the death or the Red Baron, the middle of the table had a Bristol fighter (I didn't have a Camel) being tailed by an Albatross (I didn't have a spare Fokker Triplane). Two American aircraft come on from one side of the table (I had to use Nieuports, as again I didn't have Sopwith Camels), while two Fokker triplanes come on from the far corner. I was German, while Rod was Allied.
And, all of a sudden, it was over!!! Both Nieports had been accumulating damage, and suddenly they both went down! The Fokkers had been badly damaged. But with just the Bristol left, Rod ran for home.
We then moved on to Blue Max. Rod was German, and I was US.
We then went back to a quick two planes each Wings of Glory. A Bristol and a Hanriot vs two Albatross's.

The Bristol shook the tailing Albatross, while the Americans race to the rescue. The Albatross pilot was wounded by the Bristol rear gunner.
The Fokkers are slow, and a long way from the action. Can they get there before the Albatross is shot down?
One of the American planes split off to deal with the Fokkers.
One of the Fokkers is on fire!!!! Things aren't looking good!!!
The fire is out, but the other Fokker is smoking!

Its the old version of Blue max. It looks rather boring!!
Rod is master of the skies. My planes are suffering. And Rod got his revenge, as both went down.
We then went back to a quick two planes each Wings of Glory. A Bristol and a Hanriot vs two Albatross's.
We had a couple of collisions. One Albatross was damaged badly by a collision with the Hanriot, and then was shot down. The other Albatross got critical damage and exploded!

Flying Circus
A quick game of Wing of Glory at the club.
Nick (Germans, with an Albatross and a Fokker DR.I) vs Lowell (with a Bristol and a Hanriot)
Nick (Germans, with an Albatross and a Fokker DR.I) vs Lowell (with a Bristol and a Hanriot)
A swirling melee developed.
The Fokker DR.I was spinning around all over the place spitting lead, but a shot by the Britol rear MG gunner caused an explosion, and the plane was down in seconds!
The Albatross ran for home, but the Bristol got on its tail and shot it down as well
Lowell Rickenabaker celebrates his victory
Meanwhile, on an adjacent table, the Taliban and some Rangers were going toe to toe!
